Hello Students,

          I was happy to see some students take advantage of this catch up week. It is still not too late to finish the 5 mandatory assignments I have given out since we have been learning from home. Hello parents and students,

      The government announced yesterday that teachers will be returning to classrooms and eventually some students will also be returning too. Right now everything that I have posted has had due dates but I am still accepting late work and I have assigned no zeros to assignments. This week has been a very poor week for assignment completion. It is understandable that as this type of learning drags on, many students will lose motivation. I would like to give students next week time to catch up on missing tasks. I will NOT post any new assignments next week OR provide any optional assignments so that students who are behind can focus on previous tasks.

            I am tracking every assignment right now that I have posted in google classroom and I have already made a spreadsheet of every mandatory assignment I have assigned that has not been completed. Students who have not done any assignments or who have only a couple of assignments completed have been highlighted. I have also shared this spreadsheet with AI. It would be nice in late May, when I can get back into the classroom, to admit some students who are behind. At this point it is too early to know if this is possible.

         If we do go back in June, it is so important for students to catch up as soon as possible. So Monday to Friday of next week I will post no new assignments and I encourage students to use my google meet drop in hours of Mondays and Fridays from 8-10 am to work with me to catch up. If a student messages me in the google classroom that they need help, I have offered my phone number and have worked with them outside of my drop in times. Students, I hope that we can see each other by the end of the school year and have some type of closure together.

Hello Students

I have posted today in the classroom the next assignment for next week. I have been told that Mondays and Fridays are lighter days for meeting with students. I am going to offer drop in hours form
10-12 o´clock on Monday and Friday for French. I will use Google meet. To join the meeting just use the code in the stream. I will activate it this Friday and on Monday for everyone. You don´t have to attend if you don´t feel comfortable. I just want to make myself more accessible to you if you need it.


For Grades 7 and 8 ONLY

Hello Parents and Students,

        All students had an assignment due April 15, which I posted last week before the holiday. I am posting the next assignment today which will be due on April 22nd. I am still posting small optional activities for students to do if they want to enrich their learning.

     The school is trying to co-ordinate a schedule for teachers who are providing lessons on line and the times they meet. I have not set any Zoom lessons or drop in hours yet, but once I know the times other teachers are using, I feel I can try to squeeze in some time somewhere for students to drop in on line and ask for help. As I have messaged to students, if they are feeling stressed out or overwhelmed or they are struggling with understanding an assignment and they need help they can reach out for assistance. If a student posts a comment I will reply and I have even offered to phone a student to help them one on one with an assignment.

           So far the assignments I have chosen take a maximum of 20 minutes to complete.  The assignment due next requires you watch a video, play a review game, or read a set of notes. If you have not completed the last assignment students, then this assignment is light enough for you to catch up. Remember that I am still posting optional assignments that you can do to enrich your learning. Take care and stay safe.

GAME DAY

Hello Students and parents. Last Thursday all grades were given an assignment that was due on Monday April 6th. Only half of the students in each class have done this assignment. If you have yet to complete it, please do.

I will be posting one small task to do each day, but I will only assign a due date for 1 assignment a week. You can choose to do all the tasks or none, but you MUST do the posted assignment with a due date. Having children myself, I know that having many assignments to do at this time can be overwhelming and you might not have the technology or the time on the technology to do many assignments. Still, I have had some students doing all tasks so far and I know that there are students who want to keep themselves busy and a bit distracted on outside events. I am trying to give options to both types of students.

I am sending out a Kahoot to students. You will have a couple of days to do this Kahoot. You will need to use a phone to do the game. Kahoots can now be done by remote learning. Please give it a try. Don't forget there is also a fun game you can play on Quizlet. You can compete with fellow classmates on the Match icon. I have had students in the past start competitions with each other and even my youngest child likes to beat his personal best.

I have been trying to message everyone who completes a task or their once a week assignment. I appreciate all the students who have been messaging me and I want to try to stay in touch with every student. I too miss the interaction and long for a bit of normalcy. I also appreciate the parents and students who have emailed me for information and assistance. Please do not hesitate to contact me if you need to.

Thanks to all my student who have been trying out the lessons I have created in Quizlet. I am continuing to write back to everyone who clicks the submit as done button in google classroom.
I am still noticing that there are more students on Quizlet doing lessons than students submitting lessons on google classroom.

Many students have usernames that don't have their actual names in it so you can't get credit for doing the work when you only use Quizlet. 

Yesterday I gave out a post on google classroom letting you know that Quizlet live can now be done by remote learning. Unfortunately you need to use Remind to link to the game. I have posted a join code for Remind and today I will try to see see how this works.

I want to move forward next week into new lessons.

I sent out a video today reviewing passe compose with avoir. Go back and review the lesson from last day. Many of you on the last test are inconsistent with your use. Sometimes you have the infinitive, sometimes you use the past participle, sometimes you are putting past participle agreement when you shouldn't be doing this at all for passe compose with avoir. I also sent out another Kahoot to practice this concept. If you are bored, play a game!
